ABS Error Codes

When things go wrong your ABS system it stores "error codes" about the events it detected in its internal memory. Those remained stored as long as the ECU has power. When you start the car the "ANTILOCK" light should display for 3 seconds then turn off. In the event of an error this light will alert you. If you don't have ABS then this obviously doesn't apply to you and you probably should spend your free time doing something more constructive.

How to check:ABS Actuator Check Connector
Turn the ignition to the ON position and then open the hood and locate the actuator check connector. Is it next to the ABS unit on the passenger side and is a 2 wire molded connector. The picture to the right shows its location with the connector disconnected.

The ANTILOCK light should now be blinking, you might have to wait 4 seconds. If it is continuos quick blinking then you are fine there are no error codes, otherwise you have to count the blinks. Each set of blinks will represent one digit with a longer pause to separate digits. There may be more than one code present, but it is on a continuos loop. For example if you saw blink...blink.......blink...blink...blink...blink....... that would be a code 24. If the light is always on it means there is a malfunction in the computer. After you are done you can clear the codes by pulling the EFI fuse (15A) in the fuse block right next to the diagnostic connector for 30 seconds or more, make sure the engine is off.
